Meet Robert Hanson. As a young man in Canada with an entrepreneurial spirit, Robert dreamt of moving to the United States to live out the "American dream". He had to work his way up from nothing in hopes of becoming his own boss. People called him crazy (well, many still do) but he wouldn’t listen. He packed up all his things and ventured off to fulfill his dreams.
When Rob arrived in the United States, he quickly set out to find his new business venture. However, he was searching high and low without any luck. He just couldn’t seem to find the great opportunity he had traveled so far for. Yet, like most of us have experienced, he was so busy looking around him that he didn’t realize the answer was right under his nose—or feet, for that matter. He looked down at the concrete beneath him, and actually said out loud "that’s some really ugly concrete." The broken concrete and uneven surfaces actually made the city around it look worse. Rob realized that if he could create a coating to make concrete both beautiful and functional, he could make the world a better place—or at least a prettier one, which is certainly a good start.
Rob began experimenting with different types of coatings in an attempt to find the perfect combination of materials that would turn drab concrete into "fab" flooring. He was relentless in his search and after months of experimenting, he came across the combination of epoxy and polyurethane, which was durable and tough, yet smooth and sleek. Despite the amazing success with the coating product, Rob wanted to perfect the system even more. He created the chip system with a variety of heavy chips, extra heavy chips and full chips, to give his clients more choice in their floor coating. Rob was so dedicated to giving his clients exactly what they wanted that he would manually grind the chips to the perfect size for each custom floor. His dedication to perfecting his product and pleasing his client resulted in new jobs and referral rates that went through the roof. Business was better than Rob would have ever expected! Not only were customers realizing the value of his product and telling their friends about it, but competitors were realizing the quality of the product as well.
