Answer: We get asked this a lot, but it’s difficult to answer. First, there are many coating systems to select from…some vary significantly in price-per-square foot. Second, pricing is affected by the extent of concrete damage, the need for moisture mitigation, and whether an existing coating is present or not. The best way to determine your installation cost is to contact us. We’ll have an estimator evaluate your unique space and provide a true estimate.
Answer: We only use Eco-Corflex industrial-grade epoxy, polyurethane and polyurea-polyaspartic concrete coatings in our high-end flooring systems. Our authorized dealers and franchisees, located across the US, are highly trained and certified installers. Over the past 25 years, this network of professional applicators has installed over 70 million square feet of our proprietary concrete coatings for residential, retail and commercial customers. Go to our Service Areas link to find a dealer or franchisee near you.
Answer: We offer multiple types of coating systems in a vast array of styles and colors. Your choices are endless. From our basic clear sealer and seamless solid coatings, to partial and full decorative chipped and mica-infused systems, to our inimitable metallic coatings.
Answer: Installation times vary from 1 to 3 days…with two days being the average. Once installation is complete, we ask our customers not to walk on the floor for at least 24 hours (and up to 48 hours). Regarding vehicular parking, typically 48 to 72 hours is sufficient, however, cure times can vary depending upon the substrate, weather conditions and the type of coating system installed.
Answer: The short answer is “yes”, but be very careful. Many coating companies are selling these “1-day polyurea-polyaspartic” coatings as a magic bullet. But there’s a problem. Application of polyurea-polyaspartics direct-to-concrete is not recommended when concrete moisture levels exceed 1% (and most do!). In fact, these 2-coat systems don’t meet commercial specs as they use far less material than commercial-grade installations (and are less durable as a result). Why would a contractor hype a “1-day” flooring system? Because less material and less labor equal more profit! If your installer suggests 1-day flooring without first measuring the moisture in your concrete, let the buyer beware!
Answer: We use all three product types. Our Eco-Corflex epoxy, polyurethane and polyurea-polyaspartic product lines are industrial-grade and are typically used in combination to create a highly durable coating “system”. How do we know which products to use? By performing a formal and free evaluation of your space to be coated. Each floor coating product provides distinct advantages and disadvantages and should only be selected for use based on close assessment of your unique space.
Answer: Yes. Floor coating products can emit odors that range from mildly off-putting to downright offensive. The odor is a manifestation of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) the product is emitting. And VOCs aren’t healthy. As they accumulate, they lead to poor indoor air quality. Our network of certified installers offers a selection of low odor, low VOC products. No heavy metals, no phthalates, no added formaldehyde. We even offer low-odor floor coating systems that are specifically designed for interior installations. After our products fully cure, the floors are virtually inert and are completely safe for kids and pets.
Answer: Not slippery at all. We’ll incorporate a slip-resistant aggregate into the final coat of your flooring. The aggregate is called “anti-skid” or “anti-slip” because it provides a roughness to the floor. Different types of aggregate can be selected to reflect your level of concern for slippage, from the least aggressive (and least visible) polypropylene, to the more “aggressive” (and more visible) quartz and aluminum oxide. Together, you and your Estimator will choose the best product for your unique needs.
Answer: Absolutely. We safely install interior coating systems on a regular basis. In kitchens, basements, family rooms, offices, warehouses, restaurants, hotels, bakeries, commercial kitchens, garages, industrial facilities and more.
Answer: Typically, we require the floor to be cleared of all items before beginning the coating process (but we can assist you with large items). However, some of our affiliates do offer “move out, move in (MOMI)” services. Ask your Estimator if these services are available in your area.
Answer: Yes, we repair all damaged concrete including minor and major cracks. Just as in painting, application of epoxy, polyurea-polyaspartic floor coatings is as much about preparation as it is about application. And high-quality concrete preparation requires meticulous attention to the repair of hairline cracks, major cracks, spalling or “pop-outs”, pitting, and concrete erosion. The time spent on these issues will significantly enhance the final appearance of your installed floor coating system.
Answer: We grind your floor using professional diamond grinders fitted with HEPA dust-reduction attachments. Acid washing is not recommended. For coating products to properly “bond”, the concrete surface profile (CSP) needs to be textured…smooth concrete doesn’t provide a receptive substrate. Professional diamond grinders produce the best surface profile.
Answer: We take every precaution during installation to minimize dust. Professional HEPA-filtered dustless vacuums are attached to our diamond grinders and hand grinders. In addition, we seal all doorways and vents with tape to prevent dust from entering your home. Some light dust may occur, but it’s minimal and will be cleaned up prior to departure.
Answer: Yes. Preparation of the concrete, whether new or old, is the most important part of the installation process. Thorough concrete preparation ensures you’ll get durable, long-lasting, quality flooring.
Answer: There’s no comparison in quality between hardware store DIY products and industrial grade coatings. Yes, DIY epoxies are cheap, but they have two serious limitations: low % solids (that peel quickly) and the need for equipment and materials that few DIYers possess. Because of this, DIY epoxy applications are notoriously poor. Much of our business involves DIY “do-overs”.
